Hempcrete Croatia Hemp concrete as a new building material Hemp concrete
Conventional building methods have had an alternative for some time. The green one, more environmentally friendly. After wood, another material becomes important. It is industrial hemp whose chips are mixed with several types of lime, molded and dried. The final product is hemp concrete.
Hempcrete is used in green construction in a way to place a wooden structure that is filled with them. They are bound with lime. Their carbon dioxide (CO) emissions are zero, they do not contain traces of THC and they are completely compostable.
Testing on this hemp concrete lasted for two years, and during one it showed that it is non-flammable. At 800 degrees Celsius, this concrete decomposes but is not flammable.
Research has shown that it will not disintegrate even in an 8-magnitude earthquake, but only minor cracks will remain on it. Due to mixing with lime, it also has an antifungal effect, and successfully regulates the microclimate in the room – it absorbs excess moisture that it releases during dry periods.
Due to the manufacturing process and natural materials, it is slightly more expensive than classic blocks, but it provides a very good alternative for those who prefer green construction.

Developed 4 hemp-based insulation construction systems and one hemp wood-based wood replacement system (biopan) with biobinder.
All hemp insulation systems are without finishes (lime, clay) except the last one which is coated with various natural oils and waxes because it is enclosed inside eco plywood.

In somewhat different circumstances, recognition is given to the true guardians of the Earth, humanity and the future! The Yellow Frame for Sustainable Development, Science and Education 2020 awards ceremony was held online due to epidemiological measures.
In the Croatian Music Institute (which was damaged by the earthquake) the winners were announced by Hrvoje Prćić, editor-in-chief of National Geographic Croatia magazine.
